Richard Allen Greer, loving Husband, Son, Father, and Grandfather passed with his family by his side on March 16, 2020. He was 62 years old.
Rick is survived by his wife of 34 years Karen, father of Jason (Katie) and Shelby, grandfather of Noah and Ava, and his best friends Bella and Marce. Rick joins his beloved mother and father Fran and Bill Greer in everlasting peace.
In a word, Rick was Family. He lived his life for his wife and children. Through many moves across the country, his family continued to grow to include friends and neighbors in California, Ohio, Oklahoma and Michigan. Too many miles to count and endless hotel nights together through work, sports and school events with his family. Rick was a million miler in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
His work in the automotive field gave him the opportunity to live a life beyond his dreams. He was able to travel the world, and able to build a long list of favorite food spots all over the country. Most important, he was able to bring joy and experiences for Karen and the children. His most proud accomplishment was to be a part of his children as they both graduated from college.
Rick’s friends are family. His network of friends from his childhood, work and family is extensive. He was always the one to reach out and keep in touch. He never needed a reason to stay in touch. With a close friend in California and “brothers” across the country, Rick created an annual golf trip with the vision to have an annual event to live on. Nearly 30 years later the bond of Golfer’s Paradise lives on with lifelong friends.
As the oldest son of 5, he was the family’s patriarch, keeping the values and memories of family roots. Rick was the proud ambassador of the Greer family within the extended family. If he could be there, he would be there.
Rick would have asked only to keep love in your heart. If you would like to contribute to a good cause, please consider Diabetes research and check the box to become a vital organ donor.
He was loving, funny and lived for the joy of others. Rick touched the lives of many and his presence is sorely missed. He is a Freebird now.
The family has entrusted his care and services to the L.J. Griffin Funeral Home, Northrop-Sassaman Chapel, 19091 Northville Road (at 7 Mile Rd.) (248) 348-1233.
